
reiki AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
After your Reiki session, it is very important to follow some basic self-care instructions to help optimize the effects of your session. Here are some tips on what to expect— be sure to listen to your body and nurture yourself as the healing process unfolds.
1. Be sure to drink lots of water. Keep yourself very hydrated.
2. Try to take it easy today, allow yourself time to rest and self-care.
3. Some people feel energized after Reiki, while others feel very relaxed and maybe even a little drowsy or “out of it.” Both reactions are perfectly normal—be sure to listen to your body and don’t over-exert yourself.
4. Reiki does no harm. However, sometimes after a session it is normal to experience a temporary “healing crisis” as the body adjusts to the energy shifts and release of blockages that occur during a Reiki session. One might feel symptoms slightly worsen for a short while, or feel a bit under the weather. (This is why it is especially important to keep drinking lots of water!) For others, there may be a release of emotions that surface during or after Reiki. How ever it presents, know that this is simply the body’s way of flushing out physical, mental, and emotional “toxins” (or blockages) released during the session. In other words, it may get a tiny bit worse before it gets better, but this should resolve within a few days, or less.
5. If you do not feel any major changes immediately after your Reiki session, do not worry. For many this is perfectly normal, and it does not mean that the Reiki did not work. Reiki is a subtle energy healing, and it is very common for clients to experience a slow integration of its effects. It may take a few days or even a few weeks to notice improvements. Take one day at a time and allow the healing to run its own course.
6. For best results, regular visits are recommended to maintain the ongoing benefits of Reiki. Depending on the individual, chronic conditions or difficult situations may require more frequent visits (weekly), eventually tapering off to every other week, etc., for best results. Maintenance sessions for overall wellness & stress reduction are generally recommended once a month. For others, regular “tune-ups” can be done every 6 to 8 weeks with great benefits.
7. Journaling can be very helpful to the healing process. If you notice physical or emotional changes that you wish to track, feel free to journal how you are feeling, or record notes of any improvements and/or healing symptoms you experience. You can bring these notes to your next session to discuss.
